Carpe Noctem: The Uberman Solution – Night 5

This is my polyphasic sleeping experiment. I am attempting to follow a modified version of the Uberman sleep schedule. It’s Tuesnite, and as of this post, I have been a polyphasic sleeper for 5 Nights and 4 Days. Overview / Introduction

2230 – 2250: Fell asleep very quickly- within 2-3 minutes. It was a very peaceful rest, and I had no dreams at all.

0230 – 0250: Had a pretty nice nap, went to sleep almost immediately. Don’t remember dreaming, but when I woke up, I stayed in bed for another 10 minutes and I kept feeling like bugs were crawling up my arms and legs. It sucked. Afterwards, I drank half of a 5-hr energy bottle to stay awake.

0630 – 0650: This nap went so-so, I was still feeling the energy shot a little bit so it took me a few minutes to fall asleep. When I woke up I felt rested, but I’m out of it. I suppose now I’m officially “sleep deprived”. Hopefully my body will get used to this schedule soon. :) No dreaming to speak of.

Carpe Noctem: The Uberman Solution – Day 4

This is my polyphasic sleeping experiment. I am attempting to follow a modified version of the Uberman sleep schedule. It’s Tuesday, and as of this post, I have been a polyphasic sleeper for 4 Nights and 4 Days. Overview / Introduction

1115 – 1135: Again, I had to take the nap in the car (on the way to my house from work). The drive there I was zoned out and trying to sleep, but was fruitless for the most part. Once we stopped at my house though, about halfway through my nap, I crashed right out. When I woke up, I felt like I had slept a couple hours, only it had been 10 minutes.

1430 – 1450: I slept during my work-break underneath my desk again. This time the lights were off so that helped considerably. I’d say within the first five minutes, I was out. Had a very nice rest, no dreams, but I was surprisingly actually comfortable.

1830 – 1850: Got pretty casual and put on some pajamas, and fell to sleep after after about 5 minutes. I was trying to sleep, my eyes closed, and I couldn’t stop thinking about the Uberman polyphasic sleep schedule and how I was only getting 20 minutes of sleep every four hours. Well then for some unknown reason, I thought: if I were to get stranded on an island, I would at least have a built-in unit of measurement- 20 minutes. I’m stranded on an Island with 3 or four people I don’t know and they can put me in a wheelbarrow while I sleep and they can count paces while carrying me for 20 minutes. Then they would know how many paces are in a minutes and make a distance system. Wait a minute…

That is where I realised i was actually dreaming. I came out of it and actually almost woke up early. I was kinda falling in and out of consciousness and all I could think about now was how to solve some .php problems I was having. I actually figured out the solution, correctly I might add, and I by the time I was done- my alarm timer went off.

Carpe Noctem: The Uberman Solution – Night 4

This is my polyphasic sleeping experiment. I am attempting to follow a modified version of the Uberman sleep schedule. It’s Monnite, and as of this post, I have been a polyphasic sleeper for 4 Nights and 3 Days. Overview / Introduction

My polyphasic sleeping trial continues.

1030 – 1050: This nap was great, I was tired and I fell instantly asleep. No dreams. Unfortunately I screwed up again! After this nap, I woke up only to fall asleep 15 minutes later again! I ended up crashing out until 0250, missing my 0230 – 0250 nap. Interestingly enough, my eyes popped open at exactly 0250 hours- the time my next nap was supposed to end. Maybe my body is starting to get used to the  Uberman schedule?

1830 – 1850: Feel right asleep (probably because I didn’t use the 5-hr energy tonight) and I did dream, but again, I don’t remember. :(

How to Defragment Your Hard Drive (Windows XP)

This guide is written for Windows 2000/XP

Defragmentation is a process that organizes the fragmented files on your hard drive together. Whenever you write a piece of data to your hard drive- files, movies, music, programs, anything- your operating system sections off that data into chunks and then stores it on your hard drive and it’s location in the file system table. A program that is written to defragment your hard drive automatically re-arranges the data clusters written in your file system table (like NTFS, FAT32, & ext3) which effectively makes your operating system and hard drive run smoother and helps prevent the recovery of deleted files.

This tutorial will show you how to properly use the default Windows XP utility and also a free third-party utility to defragment your hard drive. Click here to read full article

Carpe Noctem: The Uberman Solution – Day 3

This is my polyphasic sleeping experiment. I am attempting to follow a modified version of the Uberman sleep schedule. It’s Monday, and as of this post, I have been a polyphasic sleeper for 3 Nights and 3 Days. Overview / Introduction

So, I’m at work and it’s 0830 and despite my not-so-good 0630 nap, I feel great. I know this is probably temporary, but I thought I’d make a note of it.

1115 – 1135: This nap was the hardest so far- I took half of it riding in a car. When we reached our destination the driver woke me up in the middle of the nap, but I finished the rest of it on a couch. Actually didn’t get any “sleep” per-se, but I did calm down and relax with my eyes closed. That is, I tried to sleep.

I feel very good, and I’m quite surprised. I’ve only been drinking water, pretty steadily, and I had a hotdog for lunch. I feel like my thinking skills aren’t quite what they usually are, but my body actually feels… great! Unfortunetly, I’m sure I won’t feel so “great” later- most likely i’ll be exhausted. I think tonight may be a struggle, but I’m on a roll and I’m going to try not to lose it :) .

1430 – 1450: Slept at work, actually was getting pretty tired as 1430 neared. Actually slept underneath my desk and it was quite comfortable. Went to sleep after a few minutes, but I didn’t dream at all. I know it’s only the first successful day of my Uberman schedule, but I’m feeling rather polyphasic already- that is, I feel “re-charged” after every nap now.

1830 – 1850: Went to sleep very quickly and had an excellent nap. I know I was dreaming, but I don’t remember what.

Carpe Noctem: The Uberman Solution – Night 3

This is my polyphasic sleeping experiment. I am attempting to follow a modified version of the Uberman sleep schedule. It’s Sunnite, and as of this post, I have been a polyphasic sleeper for 3 Nights and 2 Days. Overview / Introduction

The Test. I really cannot fail this time, I need to stay up continiously and take my naps as scheduled.

1030 – 1050: Went right to sleep and and had some random thoughts about the day go through my head. It felt like I was dreaming, but it was all stuff that had happened recently, memories.

0230 – 0250: Dont remember having any real dreams, and I went to sleep after 5-6 minutes. Previously this nap is where I screwed up, and even this time I overslept it by 10 minutes. But I did jump up at 0300 and stayed up. This may or may not have anything to do with the bottle of 5-hr energy I just drank. :-) Probably.

0630 – 0650: Did not rest very well at all: mostly drifted in and out of level1 sleep. Im sure im going to pay for this nap, or lack thereof, soon.

Carpe Noctem: The Uberman Solution – Day 2

This is my polyphasic sleeping experiment. I am attempting to follow a modified version of the Uberman sleep schedule. It’s Sunday, and as of this post, I have been a polyphasic sleeper for 2 Nights and 2 Days. Overview / Introduction

Well, as you saw from my last post, I failed to stay up again for the second time, although it was a little better. After I fell asleep around 0300 last night, I woke back up again (like oh crap) at around 0400. Again I fell asleep 10-15 minutes later until 0650- right at the end of my 0630 – 0650 nap.

I really didn’t think that  trying to consciously stay up this long would be this hard- especially considering my sleeping problems and habits. Ironically, it seems like when I want to get some sleep I cant for life of me, and now that I want to stay awake I keep falling asleep. :)

1030 – 1050: This nap was a little difficult, and I had a hard time falling asleep. But I eventually did (probably after 10 minutes), and it was okay.

1430 – 1450: Fell asleep pretty quick on this one, and I felt like i was dreaming about something, but I dont remember what. Stayed in bed till 1500,  it took me a while to get up.

1830 – 1850: I’m getting very used to the idea that sleep is essential to get during these naps. There can be no distractions for me: light, sound, temperature, etc. So I set everything right, and then start the timer. This nap went well, fell asleep pretty quickly. No dreams.
